Infertility treatment

Selection of the most suitable treatment

The IVF specialist evaluates the severity of infertility cause of the couple and prepares the most suitable treatment plan based on the medical history and recent test results. If the diagnosis allows it, we proceed from simple treatment methods to the more demanding ones.

Treatment limitations

According to the valid legislation of the Czech Republic, we can only treat heterosexual couples who meet the age limit for women for the treatment with assisted reproductive methods. On the day of embryo transfer or insemination, the woman must not be older than 48 years + 364 days. At the age of 49, treatment can no longer be carried out.

According to the Czech legislation our clinic is not allowed to provide IVF treatment to singles. For such treatment we can recommend our sister clinics NOVA VITA in Estonia and Finland and CITY FERTILITY in London.

BMI Limits

  1. Patients with a BMI over 35 have a significantly reduced success rate in assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment
  2. In overweight patients, oocyte collection is usually technically difficult – the ovaries are hard to reach by the aspiration needle and oocyte gain may not be adequate.
  3. When attempting to aspirate poorly accessible oocytes, there is a greater risk of injury to the surrounding organs (intestines, large vessels, urine bladder). In case of such complications, an urgent intervention in the operating theatre may be necessary, however our facility is not able to provide that kind of medical procedures.
  4. General anesthesia is very risky in overweight patients.

Given the above mentioned reasons, our clinic has a set BMI limit of 35 for treatment with own oocytes, especially because of the risky oocyte collection procedure and associated general anesthesia. If the patient exceeds this limit, oocyte collection may not be performed.

For all other treatment types the limit is set at BMI 40.

Types of infertility treatment

Following the confirmation of the diagnosis, our IVF specialist recommends the most suitable treatment type. The selected treatment type depends on whether there is an issue on the part of male or female partner. The possible treatment types are as follows:

  • Ultrasound monitoring of follicular growth followed by ovulation timing with a single hormonal injection with recommendation of unprotected sexual intercourse after 24-48 hours.
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) with donated eggs
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) with donated embryo
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) with ICSI
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) using sperm from TESE
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) with donated sperm
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) with donated embryo
