We also utilise other special laboratory methods. The embryos are then placed back into the patient's uterus during embryo transfer.

We synchronise the menstrual cycles of both the patient and the donor using contraception (or alternatively, Norethisterone). Subsequently, the donor undergoes hormonal stimulation to mature a larger quantity of eggs than in a natural cycle. Hormonal stimulation typically lasts about 14 days.
At the onset of her menstrual cycle, the patient also begins preparation for embryo transfer. Based on a tailored stimulation protocol, she takes medications aimed at optimally preparing the uterine lining for embryo implantation. During this preparation phase, the proper growth of the lining is monitored through 1-2 ultrasound examinations.
Approximately 14 days after hormonal stimulation, when the follicles have reached optimal size for retrieval, the donor undergoes egg retrieval. The procedure is conducted under ultrasound guidance using a special thin needle inserted through the vaginal vault to the ovaries. The donor is under short general anaesthesia during the procedure.
On the day of egg retrieval, the patient's partner provides a semen sample. Alternatively, previously frozen sperm samples can be used for egg fertilisation.

2. Selection of donor and synchronisation of cycles
Donation of gametes in the Czech Republic is voluntary, completely anonymous, and non-commercial (donors are compensated for expenses related to the donation process - medications and vitamins, transportation, accommodation if needed, lost wages). Patients only learn basic non-identifying characteristics about the donor. From our extensive database, we select a donor based on the physical characteristics of the couple, including blood type and phenotype (eye colour, hair colour, height, weight, skin colour, ethnicity).
All our donors must undergo a series of detailed medical examinations including genetic testing.
The doctor will plan the treatment to synchronise the menstrual cycles of the patient and the donor so that both women are prepared for egg retrieval and subsequent embryo transfer at the right time.
3. What Tests Does an Egg Donor Undergo?
At GENNET, we have strict criteria for egg donors, and each donor must undergo a series of detailed health tests.
1. Medical Screening and Gynaecological Examination
The medical screening of a donor typically includes the following tests:
- Complete blood count,
- Hormone tests for AMH and TSH,
- Blood type and Rh factor,
- Tests for infectious diseases and sexually transmitted infections (HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis),
- Drug and substance abuse screening,
- Routine gynaecological examination including ultrasound.
2. Genetic Consultation and Testing
During the genetic consultation, the potential egg donor discusses with a geneticist the history of diseases present in her family, the ethnic background of her extended family, and other significant hereditary predispositions.
This meeting is focused on genetics and provides us with another opportunity to get to know the potential donor and ensure the highest chance for patients to have a healthy baby.
As part of this genetic testing, the donor undergoes:
- Karyotype analysis: assessment of chromosome structure and number,
- Genetic tests for commonly occurring genetic diseases in the population:
- Cystic fibrosis,
- Spinal muscular atrophy,
- Deafness,
- Sex-linked genetic disorders.

Each couple at GENNET receives individualised care, so the final cost of treatment varies for each patient pair due to numerous factors.
Price includes:
- Costs associated with the egg donor (monitoring the donor's cycle and retrieval of oocytes, medications for the donor, compensation for donor expenses)
- Tests for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis for the patient's partner
- Semen analysis and freezing of partner's sperm with storage for 1 year
- ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), extended cultivation, and optionally assisted hatching
- Embryo transfer
- Patients have access to a coordinator fluent in English/German/Italian throughout the entire treatment.
THE GUARANTEE PROGRAM ensures that the client receives at least 2 blastocyst-stage embryos (day 5 of cultivation), assuming sperm quality does not qualify as OAT (Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia) or worse according to WHO criteria. If the client receives only 1 blastocyst and does not achieve pregnancy (confirmed heartbeat), at least 1 additional embryo will be provided in an asynchronous cycle (i.e., 1 embryo at blastocyst stage using oocyte from another donor).
If the patient achieves pregnancy with only 1 blastocyst, no further embryos will be cultivated for the patient.
A THIRD CYCLE IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE for patients who do not achieve pregnancy (confirmed heartbeat) after two cycles with donated eggs (after transferring all embryos created during these cycles), and sperm quality in both cycles does not qualify as OAT or worse according to WHO criteria.

The total duration of treatment is individual for each couple and depends on many factors. The shortest possible duration is approximately three menstrual cycles of the woman. On average, from the first consultation to embryo transfer, the process takes about 3 months.
According to the Czech Republic´ s law, we can provide assisted reproduction methods to heterosexual couples where the woman is under the age of 49 years (48 years and 364 days).
A visit to the assisted reproduction centre is recommended for couples who have had unprotected intercourse for at least one year without achieving pregnancy (for couples where the woman is over 35 years old, this period is shortened to six months).
A doctor's recommendation for a consultation at GENNET is not necessary. However, if you have already undergone any examinations, please bring the results with you.

IVF treatment with donated eggs involves several phases, and the level of discomfort or pain may vary among individuals.
- Hormonal Stimulation:
Hormonal medication used to prepare the uterine lining for embryo implantation can sometimes cause mild side effects such as bloating, mood swings, and breast tenderness.
- Embryo Transfer:
Embryo transfer is a relatively quick and simple procedure that usually isn't associated with pain. Some women may experience mild discomfort during or after the transfer.
- Luteal Phase Support:
Hormonal medications like progesterone are commonly used to support pregnancy during the luteal phase. Vaginal progesterone application is often recommended as it has shown the best treatment outcomes in terms of success rates.
The most common side effects of hormonal stimulation include breast tenderness, bloating, and mood swings.
To prevent complications, besides the individual approach by specialists, the patient's discipline is crucial; they should responsibly follow all instructions and recommendations from doctors and staff.
As every treated couple is unique, it's not possible to generalise which assisted reproductive method is the most effective. Each couple can achieve the same result - a baby, through slightly different paths.
Donation of gametes (eggs or sperm) in the Czech Republic is completely anonymous. A doctor, together with our specialised donation team, selects a donor from our extensive database based on physical characteristics of the couple such as height, weight, eye and hair colour, ethnicity, skin colour, and blood type.
Our donors are primarily university students or young mothers aged 18-34 years. Before being included in the donation program, donors undergo a series of examinations and provide a detailed personal and family medical history. All our donors undergo gynaecological examinations, genetic testing, and are repeatedly tested for sexually transmitted diseases.
Egg donation in the Czech Republic is completely anonymous, which means there is no possibility of any connection between the recipient and the egg donor.
According to the law of the Czech Republic, egg donation is completely non-commercial. However, donors are entitled to compensation for expenses related to the donation, such as travel costs and lost wages.
According to the law of the Czech Republic, assisted reproduction methods can only be provided to heterosexual couples where the woman is up to 49 years old. For this reason, GENNET cannot provide care to gay and lesbian couples or singles.
If a woman is considering delaying motherhood for any reason, we recommend considering the option of social freezing, which allows a woman to freeze her eggs for later use.
Before IVF, it is not necessary to follow any special regimen. However, we highly recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle:
- Maintain optimal weight
- Avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption
- Reduce caffeine intake
- Minimise stress
- Take appropriate dietary supplements
If both the partner's gametes and the donor's gametes are used for fertilisation, your child will inherit your genetic information from one entire half.

The guarantee program ensures the client receives at least 2 embryos at the blastocyst stage (day 5 of cultivation). BMI (body mass index) significantly affects the success of IVF treatment. Elevated values increase the risk of complications during IVF treatment and subsequent pregnancy and delivery. To ensure the safest and most successful treatment, we have set a BMI limit of 40 for IVF treatment with donated oocytes.
Where to obtain medications in your own country will be recommended by your personal coordinator and the prescriptions are sent electronically to patients.
