ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection)
ICSI is the most commonly used micromanipulation method in which one sperm cell is transferred to each egg. The sperm is selected by an embryologist under a microscope. This method is used exclusively for the treatment of infertility through IVF methods in the case of artificial fertilization.
When do we recommend ICSI?
- When the previous IVF cycle failed
- When only a small number of eggs was collected
- When using frozen sperm
- When using surgical collection of sperm (TESE)
- When using donated eggs
- When a spermiogram detects a low sperm count, low motility or abnormal shape
- In other cases, depending on the physician's recommendation
How does ICSI work?
At the embryological laboratory, one sperm is introduced into the cytoplasm of just one egg using a special device called micromanipulator.
The success rate of egg fertilization by this method is around 90% and it is used very often.
