Infertility treatment
Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine insemination is one of the least invasive methods of assisted reproduction. The physician inserts the sperm in a thin plastic catheter through the cervix into the uterus in a painless outpatient procedure.
When the woman ovulates, it is possible to perform insemination in the natural cycle without hormonal stimulation. Otherwise the client takes stimulation medication before IUI. The intervention is conditioned by patency of at least one fallopian tube.
The treatment is done in the following cases:
- low sperm count or reduced sperm motility
- increased impermeability of cervical mucus
What is the course of treatment with IUI?
- the physician attempts to grow as many follicles that increase the probability of treatment, yet at the same time only enough of them to prevent the risk of multiple pregnancy
- hormonal stimulation usually starts on day 3 of menstrual cycle
- ultrasound check on day 8-9 of menstrual cycle
- the physician plans the exact date of insemination according to your reaction to stimulation
- your partner arrives in CAR an hour earlier than you on the day of intervention to hand in sperm*
- the embryologist modifies the sperm in a particular manner and prepares it for insertion in the catheter
- IUI is performed in gynecological position
- it is possible to leave the clinic immediately after the intervention, it is not necessary to take sick leave
- you use medication for the support of corpus luteum until the pregnancy is confirmed
*You can bring sperm from home as well, but the transport must not last longer than 1 hour. The semen must be stored at body temperature and in the dark the entire time. If possible, it is more convenient to hand in the sample in GENNET directly.
